Crisps are like the casseroles of the dessert world. Pretty much whatever fruit you’ve got lying around can be prepped for a crisp and then it’s just a matter of cutting some butter into some flour, sugar, and cinnamon for the topping.
This crisp recipe can turn even the lousiest plums into gems – I know because the plums I had on-hand were pretty damn lousy. Rock hard with large bruised areas, thick and leathery peels, little flavor. But after being baked in this recipe, the plums tasted perfect.
The sliced plums are tossed with lemon juice, cornstarch, sugar, and cardamom. Ah, cardamom. Is there any fruit that spice can’t improve? I doubt it.
Once the plums are prepped, it’s just a matter of putting them in a pan and topping them with the flour, sugar, butter, and oat mixture.
Then it’s baked all up, about an hour.
As with most, baked goods, I love this right out of the oven with some ice cream.

This looks heavenly! I love that the skins are left on plums, that looks so easy…is the texture at all strange because of it?
I honestly don’t remember, Ella, it’s been so long ago! I don’t think so, however. I’m sure if it were noticeably strange I would have mentioned it in the post. Thanks for the comment!
